Nametags will not work

I just got a name tag and tried to name my dog. But when I right-click on my dog with it, the name tag disappears. I've bought 1 other name tag and someone also gave me one and both of those didn't work either. I'm not sure if it is a plugin that is doing this, or just a bug. I'm on version 1.20.1 and I tried to name my dog Rex. I am not sure if that helps at all. But I would appreciate it if someone could help me fix this. Thank you!

Hi, what realm are you playing on and what are the coords of where your doggo is located? Someone can have a look!

I have the same problem. Named my cat twice and it didnt work, but weirdly I could name my pigman
