Users who have a Mojang account (the default account type for all accounts registered after November 2012) can change their username for free at account.mojang.com/me by clicking the (Change) link next to your profile name.

If you sign in with your username, as older accounts do, you'll first need to migrate to a Mojang account before you can change your username.

Thank you for this but I was asking mostly what process I would have to go through after I change it to keep my town and claims and things intact.

Those will just automatically change, you dont have to do anything.

Are you sure? My friend's town still says her old name on it.

Admins can most likely update it if you provide your color, town, old IGN, and new one.
